For In the Dark, it is not light but rather its absence that defines the score. The OMSI planetarium will be our sanctuary, the perfect place for Haas’ tour de force. It’s a meditation of musical color, a conversation in total darkness between the four players, a “must hear” event in which the audience is invited to abandon all sense of time and space and truly listen.

Maria de Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla

When:
Friday April 25, 2014 @ 7:30 pm Tickets

Where:
Wonder Ballroom
128 NE Russell St
Portland, OR 97212 [map it]

What:
We bring back this favorite, the tango opera by the modern master of the form. Sensual, seductive, spectral…dance music not for the faint of heart! The passion and fire of tango come to life in this expression of love, death and redemption. The most elaborate work by the master of the tango, “Maria” is the pinnacle of Piazzolla’s exploration of the soul of the tango, the duende of music/life/love/death.

For this performance, tenor Pepe Raphael returns as a soloist with narrator Enrique Andrade, bandoneon virtuoso Coco Trivisonno and the musicians of Third Angle New Music conducted by Maestro Jeff Peyton. The Argentine night club vibe is brought to life through the sensual and seductive tango dancing of Alex Krebs and Hannah Poston to complement this masterpiece.

“You feel the urge? Touch the pain. It’s inside you now, this bordello virus, this pleasure that tastes so much of anger and grief. It is all a game. Remember your instructions. Listen up. And suffer, honey, this is the tango.” - Enrique Fernandez
