New Ideas In Music Competition

UPDATE:  Period for submissions has ended.  If you are an acknowledged candidate and have questions, please email Janet@thirdangle.org.

Presenting the 2012 Third Angle/Russell New Ideas In Music Competition. We are seeking new, fresh pieces that consider the ensemble in innovative ways and will be effective works for performance.

The choice of geographic categories is reflective of Third Angle’s desire to support the work of regional composers, to present music and composers of national stature, and to build bridges via music to other countries around the world.

Third Angle’s repertoire is stylistically varied to the extreme. We’ve performed everything from Piazzolla tango operas to Spin Off by Wuorinen, from Elliott Carter’s Triple Duo to Child by David Lang. Our criteria for programming is simply the capacity of the music to connect to the audience, to challenge and entertain. As such, it will also form the criteria for this competition. All are welcome…to paraphrase Justice Stewart, “We’ll know it when we see/hear it”.

PRIZES

$1,500 prize to one winner from each category (regional/national/international)

Live performance – Winning compositions will be performed on Third Angle’s April 26 & 27, 2012 concerts. Program may also feature compositions from the runners up in each category.
